A seed’s first adventure

This public sample does not save answers or award XP.

What wakes a seed up?

A seed contains a tiny plant and a store of food. When it gets water, oxygen and a suitable temperature, it can start growing. This is called germination.

First a root grows down to take in water. Then a shoot grows up. Once leaves develop, the plant can use light to make its own food.

A seed has water and air, but it is kept somewhere very cold. Why might it not germinate?
